You can also follow the Great Defrag Shootout starting here. Nothing beats info from people who have used many products. There are other users threads also but "thm" search on member name will lead you to most of them. Optimization is, primarily defragmentation. The result will be the Windows Optimize Drives utility. The most common is to right-click on the drive in Windows File Explorer, click on Properties, click on the Tools tab, and then click on Optimize. Go back several months to get all the data. There are several approaches to defragging. Look up member "thm" posts and you will find some very informative threads about Defraggler versus other defrag products. The speed that impresses me most is how quickly Defraggler has matured in just one year. Mainly,Different strokes for different folks. If you have the Diskeeper defragmentation program installed, try shutting down DKPerf.exe. One other thing, Diskeeper 2011 still won’t let you enable automatic defragmentation on NTFS volumes with cluster size less than 16K if you are running Volume Shadow Copy service on the drive. Other than its ability to defrag a single file (versus the whole drive), performance-wise, thus far, I find only one issue why I prefer Defraggler over Diskeeper Lite 9. When I’m comfortable that I don’t need any of the current restore points anymore, I’ll try re-enabling Auto-defrag and report back what happens. Is it worth it to buy the full version of Dk 8. as a result, slower defragmenters, like Defraggler, are NOT handicapped by issues of antivirus, firewall or related software. I currently use the xp disk defrag, which is the lite version of Diskkeeper. Sc config AntiVirScheduler start= disabled I should also mention that when I defrag, the following batch file commands are executed to disable antivirus, firewall and other related software. Therfore, I would appreciate those who refrain from making moot or sarcastic comments regarding the issue of "FREE" software versus all other defragmenting software. However, recently when I go to defragment my partitions, Ive found that this partition, or rather, Volume, has been fragmenting itself more and more. In addition to Defraggler, I use a FREE version of Diskeeper, specfically Diskeeper Lite 9 version 9.0.528.0 from 2005. Hello, I have been using Windows 7 since it came out and have been aware of the System Reserved partition that is sneakily snuck in on a new hard drive being formatted within the setup utility. It doesn’t matter how the files are laid out it’s all just as fast. Since there’s no head to move, there’s no additional time cost in fetching one chunk of data from a flash drive over any other. Anyone have any perspective (or reason) why Diskeeper is (apparently) LIGHTENING FAST compared to every other defragmeter, including Defraggler? Defragging solid state drives Defragging a solid state drive will typically gain no performance benefits 2.
